as an east coast femme i'm pretty unhappy with it as well, i was planning on ging to the conference (for the first time) but now that it's on the west coast i just cant swing it this year.

i think that this switch is really going to limit the femmes who participate to the SF crowd especially since until now everyone was expecting atlanta

I'm sorta frustrated by the switcheroo to Oakland as well, because I could have driven the six hours to Atlanta for $60 rather than buying a roundtrip plane ticket for closer to $200. Southern femmes unite! Maybe we could plan a southern femmes meetup?

Thanks for posting an update of the status Sassafras. . .I know you copied their press stuff, so this is comment is more for the femme conference:

Hmm that "femme constituency" line needs a little work. Having the conference in Oakland is cost-prohibitive to any femme not living within driving distance. I understand that as the organizers that they prolly have to make decisions based on information that I don't have etc. etc. etc. But, I'm really sick of having to feel as if I have to travel to find some femme community. It was exciting to have the conference slated for a Southern venue. Also, it would be nice, if the FC made this info more readily available. I've gradually become disenchanted as a femme with most of the femme community at large. Just another drop in the bucket, really.
