Hear hear! Red lipstick was one of my biggest femme revelations to date. I was one of those who thought I couldn't pull it off both color-wise and confidence-wise, but I found the way to do it with a little help from lipstick-savvy friends and, of course, the Internet. My personal application method is to rub lip balm into my lips to moisturize, then apply the lipstick. For a more casual setting I rub my ring finger (it has the lightest touch so is very useful for blending) on the lipstick and then dab it on my lips, starting from the center and blending outward. For a dressier setting or when I want that vampy look, I dab the lipstick straight onto my lips and then use my ring finger to blend.

For reference, my skin is paler with yellowy undertones and my perfect red is L'Oreal Endless in Saucy Sangria. I think this is actually more of a universal red, though, because I first saw it being worn by a VERY pale girl with bluey-pink undertones and it also looked fabulous on her.
